IDSafeChoice Identity Theft Recovery Service

As part of our commitment to continue to fight the effects of identity theft for our members, and to support our compliance with recent regulations regarding identity theft and information security, we have joined with the nation’s best provider of professional identity theft services to bring this important group program to the credit union.

An associated fee of $1.95 per month will be charged to your Members Preferred Credit Union account to offset this and other additional security measures to fight identity theft and fraud. We are extending this important benefit to your account with Members Preferred Credit Union. Identity theft recovery services will be added as a benefit to all regular checking accounts with a balance of $10.00 or more. This fee is a fraction of what this service would cost outside of the credit union.

How Does The Identity Theft Recovery Service Work?

If you suspect your identity has been stolen or compromised in any way, one phone call to Members Preferred Credit Union will put you in touch with a certified Identity Recovery Advocate who will:

  • Place fraud alerts on your credit reports
  • Review all 3 credit bureau reports with you
  • Write letters, make calls to dispute all fraudulent information
  • Communicate with agencies, law enforcement, creditors, etc.
  • Confirm complete recovery
  • Follow up for 12 months

You and your family members can rest assured that you will have the help you need – until you are completely recovered.

Identity theft is defined as the process of using someone else’s personal information for your own personal gain. ID theft can happen to anyone, and it can come in all shapes and sizes. According to the FTC, there are more than 30 types of identity theft affecting millions of Americans each year. Your credit card digits could be stolen and used to make online purchases; a thief could impersonate you to open up a loan in your name; a felon could commit a crime and pretend to be you when caught; or someone could use your personal information to apply for a job.

We are counting on our accountholders to help us support this important group program in order to keep the cost low; however, if you want to forfeit the benefit and forego the fee you may do so at any time.

* NOTE: To make sure that no one is left without benefits if identity theft strikes, we require that you tell us if you want to forfeit the benefit. Otherwise, your account will continue to have this benefit and fee. If you have received this notification on more than one account that you or your family member has with Members Preferred Credit Union, please be sure to tell us which account will be included in this program and we will cancel your benefit on the other accounts. Business accounts will not qualify for this benefit, so if there is a charge to your business account please notify the Members Preferred Credit Union to cancel. Since this is a family benefit, one account provides recovery services for your entire family.

Terms of Services

  1. Services will be extended to accountholders at the discretion of Members Preferred Credit Union and may be cancelled upon 30 days notice to the accountholder.
  2. Services extend to all named accountholders, their spouse or domestic partner, dependants up to age 25 with the same permanent residence address as the accountholder, including students and military, and parents of the accountholder living at the same address as the accountholder, or living in hospice, assisted living, nursing home or deceased for 12 months or less.
  3. Eligibility for recovery services is based on ID theft events that are discovered and reported to Members Preferred Credit Union on or after the effective date of the group program.
  4. Identity Theft is defined as fraud that involves the use of a consumer’s name, address, social security number, bank or credit/debit card account number, or other identifying information without the knowledge of the consumer, and such information is used to commit fraud or other crimes. 
  5. Recovery Services may be refused or terminated if it is deemed that the accountholder or eligible family member is committing fraud or other illegal acts, making untrue statements, or failing to perform his/her portion of the recovery plan. Services will not be refused or terminated due to the complexity of a case.
  6. Members Preferred Credit Union and/or its service provider of the identity theft services cannot be held responsible for failure to provide or for delay in providing services when such failure or delay is caused by conditions beyond its control.
  7. This service does not provide credit counseling or repair to credit which legitimately belongs to the accountholder or eligible family member.
  8. Services are only available to residents of the United States. Identity recovery is only performed with agencies and institutions in the United States, or territories where U.S. law applies.
  9. Services are provided by Merchants Information Solutions, Inc., www.merchantsinfo.com or an alternate Services Provider selected at the sole discretion of Members Preferred Credit Union.
